Windows 10 Update Exits When It Is About To Finish

I am running a Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview Build 10162 with two admin users, one connected to a microsoft account and one that is a local account. When many things seemed to have messed up my computer, windows firewall not starting, unfixable corrupt files, and start button not working, I decided to update my computer to the latest build.

However, when I restart the computer for the update, it stops at around the end and stays at Build 10162. How can I update to the latest build, and fix the above problems?

Thank you for the help!

Hi,

You can try the media creation tool to perform the upgrade to get the RTM version of Windows 10, if your Insider Preview version is upgraded from a genuine Windows 7/8.

Thank you for your reply Kate, but I used the Media Creation Tool to create an iso, which I mounted and used to install.

Hi,

You can install from an ISO, a USB, or a DVD. Here's how:

  • Mount the ISO (double click the ISO file to mount it), and then run setup.exe from it.

  • If you downloaded or burned into a USB or a DVD, run setup.exe from the USB or DVD.
