I have Windows 8.1 Pro (with Media Center). When Windows 10 showed up, I reserved a slot, then later changed my mind and canceled my reservation. All looked good. On the Windows 10 release day however at 22:00 CET, the computer froze, mouse froze, keyboard froze. I had to reset my PC. After that I read on other forums that other people had the same issue, Windows 10 was trying to start an upgrade which resulted in the freeze. Apart from my reservation was cancelled and it still wanted to start an upgrade, it may have now effect on later upgrade attempts.
Now I am trying to download the windows 10 ISO file following the steps from http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/wiki/insider_wintp-insider_install/how-to-upgrade-from-previous-versions-of-windows/31722b30-1da9-42bb-b331-0edc4649bf43
After downloading the tool (64 bit as my current OS) I set the language (same as now), select 64 bit, but writing to ISO fails right away. I see the following warnings and an error in the setup log in $WINDOWS.~BT:
SPGetFootprintCapabilities: Footprint [Footprint.Basic] incomplete; the platform capability will not be available
SPGetFootprintCapabilities: Footprint [Footprint.Servicing] incomplete; the platform capability will not be available
SPGetFootprintCapabilities: Footprint [Footprint.ICB] incomplete; the platform capability will not be available
SPGetFootprintCapabilities: Footprint [Footprint.Migration] incomplete; the platform capability will not be available
CSetupPlatform::Initialize: Failed to initialize tracing
There is already a running setup user mode etw session!
CSetupPlatform::ResurrectNewSystem: Failure: Win32Exception: \\?\C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\NewSystem.dat: The system cannot find the file specified. [0x00000002] __cdecl UnBCL::FileStream::FileStream(const class UnBCL::String *,enum UnBCL::FileMode,enum UnBCL::FileAccess,enum UnBCL::FileShare,unsigned long)[gle=0x00000002]
Is this failure because a previous upgrade was attempted and failed (and maybe the upgare is still in progress?), or maybe an arhitecture difference between my current OS and the ISO (though I do not see such thing, but maybe)?
