Windows 10 10240 RTM build freezes randomly with Intel HD graphics on Lenovo X201

Hi,

I've got a Lenovo X201 here with 1st gen Core i5 CPU and integrated Intel HD graphics. The provided basic driver with Windows 10 freezes reliably after approximately 5 minutes. This is a complete system freeze and the laptop stops responding over the network as well. The same kit works fine with Windows 8.1 Pro x64 with basic drivers. I can repro this on multiple units so this is not machine specific. I've run updates in and there are none left to apply now.

I'm 90% sure it's the graphics driver because it doesn't hang when nothing is being scrolled or moved around the screen. It only hangs when something is being moved, particularly scrolling in Edge.

Does anyone know a solution path for this; I really need to get one of these up in the next couple of days.

Many thanks...

Considering that Windows 8.1 and 10 are quite similar, have you tried using the 8.1 driver?

Hi,

Re-try installing the newest driver in compatibility mode, find the driver installer in manufacturer's website:

To install in compatibility mode do the following:

Right click the installer>properties>compatibility>choose OS

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows?SignedIn=1

(works in  win 7, win 8, and win 10)

Hi,

Had the same issue with X201. What helped me was installing Intel INF driver. I tried 9.1.1.1022 from Lenovo download section and 10.0.27 from Intel website. Both seem to resolve the issue.

Interesting part is, that i first did it on one of the older builds. After updating to Windows 10 build 10240, problem was there again, but this time it was freezing almost instantly, so i couldn't install the driver in normal mode. Had to install 9.1.1.1022 from Safe Mode, and than was able to install 10.0.27. 10.0.27 just doesn't install from Safe Mode - ends with an error.

Hope this helps you. It doesn't stop display driver from freezing, but at least Computer does not freeze and it's possible to use it. You just get the message, that display driver stopped responding from time to time.

Now have to figure out the way to install some display driver...

Hi,

Have you tried to install in compatibility mode as what I mentioned above?

If all these not work, we have to wait for the manufacturer's update.
