I have the PC Windows Update set to install updates automatically.  However I hardly log on to an account that has an administrator privilege.  I always log on as a standard user for daily works.  In such circumstances, will the PC automatically get the update installed.

I notice every now and then I get a message asking me to change the update to be automatic while I had already done it.  Once in a blue moon, I log on as an administrator, a message could come up and ask me to install updates.

Shouldn't updates be installed automatically in the background all the time?

Standalone PC or in domain? If domain, any GPO applied to the PC?

In Windows Update Settings you can tick the option for Allow all users to install updates on this computer.

I have the option of "Allow all users to install updates on this computer" checked all the time.

Will updates be installed automatically in the background even if I log on as a standard user?

I've found that it doesn't and it has to wait till I bring up the Windows Update and explicitly click to install available updates.

I think there is some misunderstanding and I am sorry about that.

Yes, for your question I already purposed your reply as answer before my reply.

The group policy is just an additional suggestion for you or any users if they need to get that goal.

Also there are instructions in group policy help article about the system behavior when this Group policy is not configured or disabled. I thought it would be helpful.
