Will information queue up on Mgt Servers if SQL is down for maintenance
Looks like our SQL server will be down due to mtnce for several hours. Will everything queue up during this time and send once sql is back up? Should any services be stopped or other preparation tasks be performed in advance? We have one RMS and 2 Mgt Servers. SQL is on a separate box. Tks in advance, JB

Hi Can you get the SCOM box opted out of this? What maintenance requires several hours if the SQL box is dedicated to OpsMgr? In theory evyerting will queue up, first by the management servers and then by the agents. If SQL is unavailable for too long then data will start to be lost. But how many agents do you have? How much monitoring do you have in place? It could take several hours (or longer) after SQL is back up until OpsMgr settles down. Whatever you do, please do not put the RMS or Secondary MS into maintenance mode. I'd personally ask the DBAs why it needs to be down for so long and ask for an opt out. Get them to do whatever needs doing as a seperate task where they dedicate their time to getting it done asap. And perhaps consider clustering SQL going forward so they can do maintenance on each node seperately and not interupt monitoring, Cheers GrahamView OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

Just as an update - there is a useful url here that describes what happens when you lose a particular component: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc540400.aspxView OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

Firstly, assume that all of your monitoring will be broken during the outage. Secondly, (as mentioned, and I can't state this strongly enough!) don't put the RMS and management servers into maintenance mode. This will screw you! When the SQL server comes back online, you should restart the SCOM service on the RMS and MSs. And why isn't your OM and DW clustered?"Fear disturbs your concentration"
