Why title field has a default value with a file name in SharePoint 2010?

There is a strange thing occured to one of the libraries today -

The Title field is filled with a file name, e.g. ABC.pdf    as a fixed value.   I looked the library settings, the Title field is associated with default "Documents" content type, and another content type "Unknow Content Type" which is not set as the default.

Also looked "Column default value settings", there is nothing set for the Title column.

What could be the cause of this problem? Anyone has a clue?

Thanks for any tips!

Hi QuickLaunch,

Is this same file name(e.g. ABC.pdf) for all items in Titie field?

Please check if the document template file has a fixed value in "Title" property, and this value is promoted to the library Title field.

Please check if the Title columm in "Documents" content type has a default value. Also please make a copy of this library for a test and delete the "Unknow Content Type" if this content type is no needed, then check if it helps.

Also check if there is any event receiver or workflow to set the value in Title.

Here are some articles about the docuemnt property promotion and demotion, you can take a look.
