Why is MOSS 2007 Farm level back up not working ?
Hi, I am taking entire Farm level back up using Central Administration > Operations > Perform a Backup , but it is getting stuck at one point and the timer job is not getting completed. When i looked at the Log file , i found following details "The previous instance of the timer job 'Application Server Timer Job', id '{7E1EE263-26BA-4412-9F93-E5FC58F53EAD}' for service '{5417B700-85A6-4431-B6CC-92F7CA4FED86}' is still running, so the current instance will be skipped. Consider increasing the interval between jobs." on Central Administration > Operations > Timer Job Status page i am seeing both "Application Server Timer Job " and "Backup/Restore" job status as initialized but with 0 % completion. I even tried to perform back up using stsadm command, but that did not help. Any idea ? Thanks.

Hello Nikhil, Do you have multiple servers in the Farm or is this a single server. On backup logs you have: "Operating system error 1398(There is a time and/or date difference). Also i would like you to check Diagnostic Logging settings . 1)Start SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration. 2) Go to Operations 3) Under Logging and Reporting, choose Diagnostic Logging 4) Under Event Throttling, choose All as the category (this may be unnecessary, as it could be the default, but judging by the amount oflogging, it probably isn’t) 5) Under Trace Log, set “Number of log files” to something reasonable - say, 5. You can leave “Number of minutes…” to be 30, unless you want those 5 files to be smaller in size. At the default rate, a 30 minute trace file in my case seems to be about 200MB. Obviously, you should think twice before decreasing the logging levels in a production environment, 6> Once you are done with the above settings restart your timer service and try a backup again. ================================= Regards Manas-MSFT

Hi, I figured out that the issue was resolved when i ran window update and then installed WSS 3.0 SP2 and MOSS 2007 SP2. Thanks, Nikhil
