Why am I being prompted for a login?
SQL-Server 2008 R2 Express Windows 7 on i3 laptop. My laptop is named "Oak" I am trying to get SSRS installed, and working. I go into "Reporting Services Configuration Manager." Then, under "Web Services URL" there is a this link: http://OAK:8080/ReportServer_SQLEXPRESS I click on the link, my MSIE browser comes up, and I am prompted for a login, and password. WTF? I never configured a login or password. I have read something about editing the rsreportserver.config file. But, I can find no such file. > "Remove RSWindowsNegotiate and ensure RSWindowsNTLM is specified in the file rsreportserver.config" http://blogs.msdn.com/b/lukaszp/archive/2008/03/26/solving-the-reporting-services-login-issue-in-the-february-ctp-of-sql-server-2008.aspx

When you launch Internet Explorer, right-click on IE and select “Run as administrator” and type your Report Manager URL. To avoid login prompt in the future, please set the user authentication to Automatic logon with current user name and password(In Internet Explorer->Tools->Internet options ->Security->Custom Level…) Hope this helps.

I might be making progress. I am running msie as administrator, and I changed the user login settings, and I typing the URL in the address bar. I am not being prompted for a login. A page loads. But there is nothing on the page except the top of the page reads "Oak/ReportServer" then I have two horizontial lines. Under the horizontial lines, is something like "Microsoft Reporting . . . " And that's it.

Did you deploy any reports/data sources? There will be nothing on Report Manager except what you have created/deployed.

Hi, Can you paste the Report Server screenshot? Looks like you havent deployed any data source nor any reports on your Report Server, hence it seems too be blank. Thanks KumarKG, MCTS

Okay, I am trying to create some sort of report to deploy. As I understand it, I should be able to select an option to create reports, from the drop-down menu of the management studio. But, I see no such option. Maybe it's because I'm running express?

You'll have to use Business Intelligence Development Studio to create reports, not Management Studio. Hope this helps.

Hi walterbyrd, Reporting Services Reporting Services provides two authoring environments which are Report Builder and Report Designer to create report definition (RDL) files. Report Builder is a report authoring environment for business users who prefer to work in the Microsoft Office environment. Report Designer in Business Intelligence Development Studio is a report authoring environment that is hosted in Microsoft Visual Studio. For more information about How to: Create a Report(Reporting Services), please refer to the article below: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms159170(v=sql.100).aspx If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask. Hi walterbyrd, As Shahfaisal posted, this issue might be caused by UAC settings. For more information about How to: Configure a Report Server for Local Administration on Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 (UAC), please refer to the article below: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb630430.aspx By the way, here is a good article about Features Supported by Reporting Services in SQL Server Express.
