Why SSRS 2008 r2 is soo slower than SSRS 2008?
I have a report in SSRS 2008 in sharepoint (2007) integration mode, and I am migrating to SSRS 2008 r2, the first time I installed it in sharepoint (2010) integrated mode, I could not make it work since always I was getting a time out error, so, I changed
to native mode, I am able to see my report however it is so slow. I started searching on internet and found some things like uninstall the antivirus, however I don´t have an antivirus installed, also I disabled the firewall, and my report is still slow
in SSRS 2008 r2.
I got this results from both servers:
SSRS 2008:
TimeDataRetrieval TimeProcessing TimeRendering Source
1272 2888 68
Live
SSRS 2008 r2:
TimeDataRetrieval TimeProcessing TimeRendering Source
126139 7226 83
Live
As you can see SSRS 2008 r2 is so slower than SSRS 2008, another thing I did notice is that running the stored procedure directly from management studio, it runs in about 3 seconds, and when the stored procedures is called from BIDS it runs in almost the
same time the ExecutionLog3 table is reporting me (~120000).
I really don't understand why I am getting these results. I hope you can help me, and if you need more information just ask me.
Thanks

Hi Salvador,
Did the report dataset return the same rows? Did the report have the same processing, for example, grouping or sorting? How about the both server hardware performance, for example, ram and cpu? Is the log record for that the report firstly ran on the SSRS
2008 R2? Were there other applications running when the report is executed? You can use the system task manager to monitor these. Totoally, SSRS 2008 R2 delivers significant performance improvements copared with SSRS 2008. See
http://blogs.technet.com/b/tothesharepoint/archive/2010/12/03/reporting-services-performance-imporvement-in-sharepoint-integrated-mode-in-sql-server-2008-r2.aspx for the comparison with testing.
thanks,
Jerry

Yes, same number of rows, 29232 both.
Same processing, in fact I wrote a little report that only shows the data, no grouping, no sorting.
The server:
Slower: windows 2008 r2
sharepoint 2010
sql server 2008 r2
Faster: windows 2008
sharepoint 2007
sql server 2008
Both servers have the same hardware configuration, they are vmware virtual machines
I ran the report twice, and the second log is what I am showing
No more applications running when I ran the report in r2
In my search on internet I found the blog you are posting, but also I found some people having performance issues.
The last thing I tried was install the hotfixes for sql server, but the performance issue is still theere, I am thinking that may be the best for me is not migrate to sql server r2.

Hi Salvador,
You can use CU3 patch available for sqlserver 2008 R2 and check for your report performance.
I also faced same kind of problem and it is much better now.
