Why Capture
Hi Guys Newbie on SCCM quick question if you don't mind. Just working through deploying images etc - some of the guides ihave followed have said build and "Capture" My question is if i use SCCM to deploy my images, updates and software packages etc, why do i need to capture the machine afterwards. Is it because i then have a gold image i then can deploy? Thanks in anticipation Chris

Hi, The reason for capturing an image is because you want to create a reference image. It's the reference image that you are deploying in the organization.Kent Agerlund | http://scug.dk/members/Agerlund/default.aspx | The Danish community for System Center products

Using reference images greatly speeds the deployment process because you do not have to wait for the full Windows installation. Also, you can roll other lengthy operations into the image so that they don't have to be repeated during deployment; e.g., Windows Updates, application installations, common customizations. It's not a question of automation as both the "build and capture" and "deployment" are fully automated (or should be), it simply comes down to speed of deployment. If you are totally not concerned with speed, it is acceptable and supported to base your deployment on the OS source files instead of a reference image; most people don't do this, but it does work.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys
