Where is Windows SharePoint Services v3 Admin Guide?
The Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Software Development Kit has multiple references throughout it to the Windows SharePoint Services Administration Guide. I've searched Microsoft's site and Googled, and the only WSS Admin Guide I can find is for version 2. Where is the Admin documentation for version 3 of WSS and for MOSS? Thanks in advance, Susan

This isn't a single document called an Administration Guide which is my understanding of what the original question was asking for.Instead it's one of many possible links to pages giving links to various other papers (none of which is called an Administration Guide)The answer imo to the original question is that - unlike the situation for WSS 2.0 and SPS 2003 - MS have not produced a single (or two single ) document called an Administration Guide.Instead there are many many documents from Microsoft (and lots of web-based information) each providing part of the information that in previous versions was in the Admin Guide. Many of these can be found herehttp://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com/Lists/v3%20WSS%20FAQ/V%20Books.aspxMike WalshP.S. The nearest thing to an Admin Guide is to my mind the MS Press book "Office SharePoint Server 2007 - Administrator's Companion". This of course costs money.See Book links herehttp://wss.asaris.de/sites/walsh/Lists/WSSv3%20FAQ/V%20Books.aspxwhere this is the second book listed.Mike Walsh

Thanks Mike; you understood my question correctly. I was looking for a downloadable Admin guide (CHM) - like they had for version 2. I found it invaluable to have on my servers and in my virtuals - so I could quickly pop in and look up stsadm commands, etc. I already have the book, just searching for tools to have on the servers. I find it odd that the SDK refers to an admin guide - if it's only online, then think they should just use URLs - to help keep the poor slobs like me from performing useless searches. Thanks again for the info - and for the links. Lots of good info there - will keep me busy for a while!

I know this thread is dead, but I can't help but reply since WSS 3.0 w/ SP2 specifically refers us to "the administrator's guide"... Database Name and Authentication Use of the default database server and database name is recommended for most cases. Refer to the administrator's guide for advanced scenarios where specifying database information is required. Thanks Microsoft...
