When to use Site Columns?

Should I use site columns for each field in a list?

eg: Name, Address, Zip Code

Or only for the reusable columns which are used in multiple lists?

Hi Sunil- only use site columns when you will be adding them to multiple lists. That's the whole reason behind them- that they're reusable.

Thanks.  But what about "Name" which is a "Single line of text" and getting added to 3 lists.

Should I create a site column for it?

That's entirely up to you. I think it's generic enough that you may use it for more lists in the future.

Some site columns are recommended to create in order to be used multiple lists across multiple SharePoint sites. Having site columns, you dont have to recreate settings each time you want to reuse it for another lists, document libraries or sites. Site columns are flexibly managed in a centralized location by site administrator. This provides a consistency for information management in your organization
