When to use SharePoint Configuration Wizard?
It has been said that running the SPCW help eliminate many errors in the SharePoint log. Researching this suggestion has not provided much insight. What exactly does the wizard do? When should it be run? What changes does it make? Where can I find this information documented?

I wouldn't generally recommend running the evil wizard unless there is a good reason to do so. I would investigate what is causing your errors rather than expecting the wizard to resolve those problems. Typically you would use PSCONFIG to configure SharePoint following an upgrade - for example, after upgrading to a new service pack or CU. The wizard executes steps that you could otherwise perform using PSCONFIG.exe. I would recommend checking out http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263093(office.12).aspx which documents the specific steps that the wizard takes to configure SharePoint.
