First of all, is your question in regards to SharePoint 2007 (since this is a SharePoint 2007 forum) or SharePoint 2010? There is not a way with SharePoint 2007 to use SharePoint's backup tools to perform a farm configuration backup, that was a new backup feature introduced in SharePoint 2010. Secondly, I want to level set something Hemendra mentioned. Microsoft states in the TechNet article that backing up your farm's configuration in SharePoint 2010 can help you better preserve your content in some circumstances in SharePoint 2010 but the way Hemendra seems misleading because it almost makes it sound like content is included in a configuration backup, which is not at all true. Configuration-only backups in SharePoint 2010 are a nice way to take a snapshot of some information about how your farm is configured, but you need to keep in mind that they are actually somewhat limited in what configuration information they do and don't actually capture. For a fantastic rundown of what you can and can't do with SharePoint 2010's configuration backups, I would strongly recommend that you read this blog post by Sean McDonough, he's done a great job of really diving into the subject and covering it thoroughly: http://sharepointinterface.com/2010/09/10/configuration-only-backup-and-restore-in-sharepoint-2010/ JohnMCITP and MCTS: SharePoint, Virtualization, Project Server 2007 My books on Amazon: The SharePoint 2010 Disaster Recovery Guide and The SharePoint 2007 Disaster Recovery Guide.
