Hi,

Based on my knowledge, these kinds of routing protocols (i.e. RIP, OSPF, EIGRP) can only be applied and configured in routers.

You can also refer to:

Routing protocol

Chapter 5 IP Routing

Hope this helps.

RIP and OSPF are routing protocols that one uses to configure how a router talks to other routers.

To do a RIP/OSPF, one needs to log into a router by using set of tools.

Few known names are putty, tera term etc... How ever, windows has an inbuilt such service called hyper terminal. It is not installed by default, you can, however, one can enable  it by enabling the telnet client in add or remove windows components..

Hope this helped.

RIP is typically used in a small network environment and OSPF is typically used in a small to medium environment.... these are rarely used in networks nowadays ... EIGRP has over taken and is being used in medium sized networks.... however... in a large network... lets say.... 150+ ... BGP is being used...

Bottom line... RIP - small -- OSPF -- small to medium....

But it is incorrect to term them this bluntly as there is a whole lot more stuff which is into these protocols that runs in the background...

You would better use iBGP routing if your network is too big
