When prestaging is complete, do I need to uncheck the option to enable prestaging on DP?

Hi,

Once I am done extracting and prestaging all my content on a new distribution point. Should I uncheck "Enable this DP for prestaged content"? Or do I keep it checked? Will it still get new packages if it is still checked? TIA

Thanks the reason I ask is I see content applications that aren't distributed to the new DP and it says "waiting for content to be prestaged" I don't know how to get it out of this state. TIA

It depends on what you are trying to achieve. The checkbox does what it says: it tells the DP not to automatically receive content so the admin has to manually prestage content.

ok Thanks, basically I cloned everything to the new DP but I don't know why some apps are in a content status of "waiting for prestaged content". Maybe it was missed somehow during the extraction. So I just don't know how to get it out of the waiting for prestage content state. If I uncheck it will it start to get the applications it doesn't have?

We know because you opened more than one thread about it ...
There are basically two options: (a) remove the prestage-only option and let distmgr do its work (which might kill your WAN links) or (b) create pkgx files for content that's in status "waiting for prestaged content", ship/copy it to the DP and use extractcontent.exe.

So I verified that the pkgx file is extracted to the new server by manually trying and it told me that the content was already present. On the monitoring node in SCCM it is still reporting as waiting for content to be prestaged. So I manually prestaged and extracted 1 pkgx file/application on one of the DP's and then it reported back successful that the content is there now.

Is there a command or something similar I can do on the troublesome DP's that will send the content status to the main SCCM server so that it knows that the content is in fact on the DP?

We have 100's off applications and I cant 1 by 1 manually extract all of these for each DP and we don't want to have traffic over the WAN. I have enabled the distribution point for prestaged content before the initial prestage/extraction so I don't think that is the issue. Somehow I think its not reporting back the actual content status. Thank you for any help you may have

Hi,

There is a Content Validate feature. When you click the validate button, the site server sends a command to the distribution point provider to validate the hash of the package on the distribution point.  Once the action is completed the distribution point provider reports back to the site server and updates the compliance status in the Distribution Status node.

you need to do it manually only as you can categorize that which DP require only some list of specific application, so we need to do it manually by pkgx file extraction as we need not kill WAN bandwidth and for any command you have to provide the UNC path and that will copy the content from the source path so for the same there will be use of bandwidth in the environment.

I would like you to please do it manually and please do share here any alternative method you get to know from anywhere.
