There isn't really a specific limit. The only real limit is no more than 300 site collections. If you then assume that each site colleciton is in its own content database and those databases should normally be limited to 200GB each that would give you a max of 300 X 200Gb = 60,000Gb or about 60Tb. That's not a firm limit since content databases can get as big as 2Tb if you aren't worried about locks when accessing collaborative content and you can backup/restore that much in a timely fashion.Paul Stork SharePoint Server MVP Senior Solutions Architect: BlueChip Consulting Group Blog: http://dontpapanic.com/blog Twitter: Follow @pstork Please remember to mark your question as "answered" if this solves your problem.

The software and boundaries for Office SharePoint Server 2007 (this is the pre-SharePoint 2010 forum) can be found at: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262787(v=office.12).aspx "The only real limit is no more than 300 site collections" => The 300 site collections that Paul mentions, should be web applications though. You can have up to 50,000 site collections in a single content database. Dirk Van den Berghe

My post should have read 300 content databases per Web Application, not 300 site collections and that is from the SharePoint 2010 Boundaries and Limits list. SharePoint 2007 has a maximum of 100 content databases per web applications. So the max for a web application in 2007 would be either 100 X 200GB (recommended max) which is 20,000Gb or 20Tb or 100 X 2Tb (SQL max but not recommended) which is 200Tb.Paul Stork SharePoint Server MVP Senior Solutions Architect: BlueChip Consulting Group Blog: http://dontpapanic.com/blog Twitter: Follow @pstork Please remember to mark your question as "answered" if this solves your problem.
