I have a basic (out of the box) MOSS 2007 farm, setup and operating. The present web URL is www.mycompanyname-sp.com but could be easily changed. I want to add approx 10-12 unrelated, low-usage, sites. These sites will house the associated company's director's board meeting information. While the industry is related there must be no interaction among sites. I am very new at SharePoint and I am having difficulty deciding the best approach. There is one default SSP installed. Do I add additional SSPs, or are these separate web applications, or site collections, or sub-sites, or what is best practice for this kind of configuration. How should the URL be setup ? I would want it as user friendly as practically possible ? The actual users are completely non-technical, and for the majority, will have to be trained to utilize the site. AD will be used for login. Should I set up My Sites (my thinking is yes) ? I would certainly appreciate any suggestions, or perhaps point me in the right direction for information. I have talked to a consultant but the kind of answers I got just did not seem to fit my application. Hopefully, shortly, I won't have to ask these kinds of questions. Thanks, Brian.

I would consider just using site collections for each site, all hanging off your root URL. As long as you get your permissions correct you should have few problems keeping the data for each site separate even in search results. You can even create a unique a dedicated content DB per site collection to make sure the data is seperate as shown here: http://littletalk.wordpress.com/2008/10/10/creating-a-site-collection-in-a-new-content-database/ Mysites are a personal thing, only use them if your users have a need to share information between peers outside of the 10-12 sites you need to use.
