Our stable production installation of SSRS 2008 R2 mysteriously stopped working today with the following error message: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ReportingServices.UpgradeScripts, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied. Anyone know what this assembly does as no upgrade or updates of that server or service has been attempted. Thanks; -Robert

Found the problem - at event viewer there was an error message thrown by SSRS, saying Report Server cannot connect to the report server database. I restarted the SSRS service and it returned working.

I'm having the same issue. At a customer site, reports used to work then suddenly this error message apears..both at the report manager portal and when using the reporting services asp.net server control. How can i rely on Microsoft products if every now and them they come up with these kind of errors ? MS - please advice ASAP !!

Hi Robert, Based on my research, the assembly is required even though we have not attempted to upgrade the product. Since currently Reporting Services is not able to load that DLL, please ensure that the account that RS is running under has access to that file and that the file is not used by any other process. You can use SysInternals Process Explorer to see if the file is used by others. @yanos_1, thanks for sharing your solution.
