What is PDUWICA?

I'm getting this notification in Application System log once a day:

The server works as intended though, I'm just curious what PDUWICA means? Could not find any definition/explanation on the net.

Actually, a quick Bing search showed a few things to possibly check on. First, it is most likely being generated by some application you have installed on the system - hopefully it is something you want installed and is not malware.  Maybe some monitoring software you have?

One suggestion I found from the Bing search was to search your registry for the PDUWICA string.  You might be able to backtrack to the program that is generating the message.

This string occurs in many hives under \Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\Consent key. This is a REG_DWORD with a value of 4. Don't know what it means though, seems like a constant.

A little hint can be found here

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb513638%28v=vs.85%29.aspx#Consent__VerticalName_

, as 4 stands for "All data" (or maybe it's "all data" for PDUWICA, while PDUWICA is a "VerticalName"). Microsoft is full of mysteries, you know.

Still, no sign of PDUWICA in "Problem Reports" section. Weird.

Be-Happy-IT. Did you ever solve this mystery? I have a similar issue on my Hyper-V test server.  it's working fine, but with this odd error going on, it's hard to use it in it's intended purpose of testing updates before rolling them out to production Hyper-V servers.

Thanks

Hello, I couldn't find anything. But after all, this is an information level event, so I guess it's nothing to worry about.

Personally I think this should be categorized as at least a Warning level event since it is a module that is crashing. Someone one another board said it is probably an incompatible driver that is crashing which I would probably agree since the server I am using is about 8 years old. But everything seems to be working so wutcha gonna do? :)

Hi,

I found that this weird error is somehow related to the following scheduled tasks (at least the timing is suitable):

Task Group: Application Expirience

Name: AitAgent or ProgramDataUpdater

AitAgent: Aggregates and uploads Application Telemetry information if opted-in to the Microsoft Customer Experience Improvement Program.

ProgramDataUpdater: Collects program telemetry information if opted-in to the Microsoft Customer Experience Improvement Program

Ofcourse, I'm not 100% sure

I guess you've hunted it down. Same here. Moreover, ProgramDataUpdater explains the "PDU" part in the message. It's interesting that I didn't opt-in to Microsoft Customer Experience Improvement Program.

Same here, I'm not in. Maybe if the time goes on, we get some additional information about this weirdness... until then we should live with this..or just disable this tasks - in the other hand, I'm not aware any related sideeffects if I disable this task(s).

Just ignore..

Sven, how did you disable the MS Customer Experience Improvement Program data collector?

Thanks

I have'nt done it yet, but regarding this particular event I might just try to disable this PDU task.
