The values are as follows: 0 (default client), 1 (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard), 2 (DTS Designer in SQL Server 2000), 3 (SQL Server Replication), 5 (SSIS Designer), and 6 (Maintenance Plan Designer). What does default client mean?

Besides those 5 tools, what are other MS tools for creating SSIS packages? Does "Undefined" simply mean non-MS tools? It is kind of odd that the value 4 is skipped.

This is a use of package, not tools a package was created with. You can set this property yourself in BIDS to whatever value.Arthur My Blog

So, does the package type property in SSIS packages tell you which tool should be used to run the package? I could create a package in the BIDS studio and it would say DTSDesigner90 (for 2005) but I could set it to DTSWizard and that would tell you that it should be opened with the DTS Import Export Wizard? g
