We have MOSS 2007 and I am trying to use a Welcome Page with Summary Links page for a department site home page. My intent is to have a department's site that holds a number of team based subsites. At the department site, all that I want is to be able to display a page of links that could be to those sub sites or could be to other parts of my site collection which that department needs to use on a regular basis. The department home site is a sub site to the site collections top level entry site. I used the Publishing site template to create the department site. The default page for the site home page is Welcome Page with Summary Links. I cannot figure out how to configure the Summary Links to actually show any links even though editing the page and accessing this part will allow me to add a link, the link does not display nor are any errors generated. The message that shows in the Summary Links webpart when I create the site is: Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible HTML editor such as Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator If I try to do anything with the page in SharePoint Designer, it gives me two options - one to edit page in browser which puts me back into the normal edit page within SharePoint, which doesn't allow me to add links or two to edit the page in SharePoint Designer in which I end up editing the default welcomelinks.aspx page for my entire site collection. If I look at the default welcomelinks.aspx page in SharePoint Designer, I can see the part that has the error, but I do not know what to do to correct the error. If I highlight the section that has the error, the following code is displayed: <td width="50%" valign="top"> <PublishingWebControls:SummaryLinkFieldControl id="LeftColumnSummaryLinks" FieldName="SummaryLinks" runat="server"/></td> There's obviously some setting or something that I'm missing to allow the Summary Links to work. Has anyone had this problem and how can I fix it?
