Webserver role deployment and consideration as Virtual Machine

Hi,

I'm trying to deploy the SharePoint Server 2013 Enterprise Edition Webserver role that will be used by approximately 200 users connection simultaneously during the working hours and about 20-50 outside of the office hours.

Deployment A - 2x smaller VMs
Here are the specs for single VM:
Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard
4x vCPU (2 vSockets x 2 vCores)
8 GB vRAM
C:\ - 100 GB
D:\ 50 GB

Deployment B - 1x big VMs:
Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard
6x vCPU (2 vSockets x 3 vCores)
16 GB vRAM
C:\ - 100 GB
D:\ 50 GB

Which of the deployment type should I be using ?

What are the Load balancing or clustering service to be used ?

Hi,

I suggest you choose Deployment A , the reason is:

1. You can use Load Balancing for SharePoint for High Availability.

2. You can deploy different web application on different servers.

I agree with Wendy and would choose the first option. With the WFE role on multiple servers this gives you  options for maintenance, scaling out, etc. I use Windows NLB for this but I dare say a hardware load balancer would be better if you can afford one.

The applications servers will take care of themselves, SharePoint uses internal load balancing for the service applications (as long as you start them on multiple servers).
