Web application wont load under specified URL
I created a web app called JellyBean. My server name is MainSystem. If I type the url
http://mainsystem:777 it will connect, but if I type
http://jellybean:777, or
http://Jellybean, I get IE cant display the web page. What am I doing wrong?Trevor Fielder

Hi Trevor,
Did you create a Host record for "JellyBean" on DNS ?
If not first create a Host record on DNS and point it to SharePoint server.
How did you create http://jellybean:777 , by extending http://mainsystem:777 ?

This is a 1 server install. DNS is on the same server as sharepoint. If I create a Host A record then when I try to load the page it wants login credentials and then just loads a blank page.
Mainsystem is the name of my server. My web app is called Jellybean. When I created the app, the default URL is
http://mainsystem:777 and I wiped that out and specified that I wanted it to be Jellybean:777, however it still connects under mainsystem:777. I want each web app to connect using the companys name and thats where im stuck.Trevor Fielder

Hi Trevor,
Then just add "JellyBean"under system32\drivers\etc\hosts in local host file with IP address.
Browse to central admin > Application Management
Click on create or extend a web application > Extend an existing web application
Select http://mainsystem:777 from drop down and then add
JellyBean in Host Header and provide required information.
Select Intranet zone > Click OK
This will create the exact URL of http://mainsystem:777 and you can definitely able to browse
http://jellybean
Please let us know in case of any query

I am trying to install a new web application and get it to connect. If I extend an existing web application then the content is store in the same content database correct? I do not want that. I want a new web app on a different
content database, on a different port. Trevor Fielder

Hi Trevor,
You have to follow the same steps which I have mentioned in above reply.
Just need to create a new web application and add host header. But for that you have to add a host name in local host file to make it browsable.Warm Regards, Pratik Vyas | SharePoint Consultant | http://sharepointpratik.blogspot.com/
