i want to uninstall windows steadystate. for some reasons, windows steadystate does not appear under "Add or Remove Programs". thus, if there is a way to uninstall without going to "controll panel" please let me know!!

Hi,seemingly Windows SteadyState is installed in the form of a Service Pack to Windows XP. An alternate uninstall route therefore is to go to the hidden system folder C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallSCT$\spuninst and double click on the spuninst.exe file there. To remove any temporary files left in that folder after uninstallation, simply reboot the machine: they will be removed automatically.If you can't seem to find this folder, open My Computer and in the Tools Menu choose Folder Options. What Jan said is right on the target. For each application listed in the Add/Remove Programs, there is a registry key in the following registry: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\] For SteadyState, it has a registry key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Windows SteadyState]. If this key is missing, the Windows SteadyState entry will not be displayed in Add/Remove Programs. The UninstallString registry value contains the command line to be executed when an uninstall operation is invoked from Add/Remove Programs. For SteadyState, it is C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallSCT$\spuninst\spuninst.exe. Now that the entry is missing in Add/Remove programs, we can run the command line manually to uninstall this tool. If you have enabled Windows Disk Protection, please ensure that you turn it off before running the command line.

I want to uninstall Windows Steadystate because it make my boot time slow. I already uninstalled it in Add/Remove Programs. but it is still there. I deleted this folder $NtUninstallSCT$ before I uninstalled. can you give me a command line manually to uninstall the Windows Steadystate.

Hi Sylink, I would like to confirm if SteadyState is still within "Add/Remove Programs" or still accessible. We can check if most files under the following folder have been deleted. If so, SteadyState should have been uninstalled. C:\Program Files\Windows SteadyState If it's just the uninstall link under Add/Remove Programs, Sammy's suggestion will remove the link without issue. If SteadyState is still accessible, since the $NtUninstallSCT$ folder has been deleted, command line removal will not be available. We can reinstall SteadyState and then try to uninstall it again. Hi Shawn, Unfortunately that won't work, as SteadyState reports it's already been installed. @Sylink The only way around this is to get hold of another installation's $NtUninstallSCT$ folder and its contents, along with $NtUninstallWDF01005$ to remove WDF. You'll need to uninstall WDF first You can simply copy these two dirs from any other SteadyState installation, direct onto a USB flash drive if you like, and runtheSPUNINST EXE's directly from each of the folders. It works without fail. It's how I worked out how getaround the WDF bug with defraggers (you have to SPUNINST WDF after any 3rd party app defrag) Unfortunately I cannot attach a ZIP with them in - even though its only 500KB Hope that this helps Cheers Steve

You need to choose the Repair option and try to repair the installation. Then you should be able to launch the program and turn off Disk protection, and then go to ADD/REMOVE to uninstall the programJealousy is not proof of love, nor proof of emotional immaturity

Iwas having exactly the same problem. Apparently it started because SteadyState files got corrupted when removing a virus and spyware. Then it got worse because I removed all the references to it from the Registry (following a removal suggestion), asthe "Repair" option wouldn't show in "Add and Remove Programs" or anywhere else that I know, and reinstalled it.After this first reinstall, I received the message that the program wasn't installed correctly. I followed a second set of removal instructions (see below) andI was able to reinstall it, but then it got me back to whereI started: it doesn't allow me to set WDP to "on".
