Wake on LAN troubleshooting (WoL)
Anyone get Wake on LAN working for anything in Configuration Manager? I've tried in 2007 with SP1 and SP2 and am not having good luck. I've also tried various Dell computers that are reported to support such an action. In fact, I've run a network sniffer to verify that the computers are receiving the wake up packets, but the computers do not turn on. I am using Unicast. And made sure the settings on the network cards are enabled "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and "allow this device to bring the computer out of standby". I've also tried with this setting off and on "only allow management stations to bring the computer out of standby". When I run any other standalone utility to send magic packets, it does wake up the computers. Unfortunately, I cannot find any worthwhile errors in the logs. Any suggestions?

I'd download a WoL utility first (such as wolcmd.exe) and try if the computers wake up at all.

Hi Jobu, are the clients on the same subnet as your Siteserver? If not, maybe some network equipment (Router?) is blocking WoL Traffic.Try plugging your client in the same subnet and see if that works.Miguel Rodriguez MCTS - ConfigMgr ~~elmunjo.blogspot.com~~

ELMUNJO, the clients are not on the same subnet as the site server, so I thought that too. Which is why I mentioned that I ran the network packet sniffer on the remote machine to verify that the remote machines are, in fact, receiving the wake on lan packets. I checked via the Microsoft recommended method listed here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693595.aspx . Any other suggestions would certainly be appreciated.

There are a few predefined webreports available (category "Wake On LAN"). They might bring up something. There's also Wolmgr.log and WolCmgr.log.
