WSUS import / export still possible?
Hi, is it possible to use / updatethe SCE integrated WSUS content without an internet connection? I would like to use SCE in an isolated network without internet connection. Is it possible to export updates (via wsusutil export | import) from WSUS 3.0 (yes) an other SCE installation which hasinternet access ? and if both variants are possible: is there a difference between both export variants? And can I import WSUS 3.0 exports into SCE/WSUS ? import SCE/WSUS exports (if this can be done)into another isolated SCE/WSUS server? Thanks for any answer. Rainer Kroos

Yes, this is very possible and supported. We recommend following the steps at http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/4696c613-66f3-483d-8ea9-66bcca74730e1033.mspx?mfr=true. This will provide guidance for wSUS management. Essentials is very similar in this respect. The only additional recommendation I have is to set the symcs to MANUAL, or the system will alert that syncs are failing. Hope that helps! /Ty

Rainer, You can run WSUSUtil on your SCE server just as you can on any WSUS server. Be aware that the export and import function does not copy the actual update files, only the metadata. You would need to copy the update files manually to the isolated server from your connected server. Tim

Hi, Rainer The answer from TY is absolutely right. In SCE 2007, the tool WSUSutil is also could be used to export and import the updates just as it is in WSUS 3.0. However, please be reminded that do NOT use WSUS Console to configure any items like computer groups. Anyway, The SCE and WSUS are not all the same. Thanks! YogSo are you saying to remove all groups on a WSUS 3.0 before migrating to a fresh SCE2007 install? However, please be reminded that do NOT use WSUS Console to configure any items like computer groups. Anyway, The SCE and WSUS are not all the same.

Hi, Docyit The SCE setup will modify the computer groups to its compatible formats automatically. For example, in WSUS 3.0 environment, there could be a Computer Group 1 group in All Computers group. After SCE2007 installation, Computer Group 1 willno longerbelongs to All Computers. The two Computer Groups will be paratactic in the root. Thanks!
