WSUS and SUP troubles

Hello,

I've been having troubles with updates missing in SCCM and the WSUS sync failing now. Based on several post answers, I decided to re-install SUP and WSUS.

I have done the same. I'm hitting a wall WRT one particular WSUS setting.

I noticed the hard disk filling up fast and realised this was because WSUS was downloading all updates and storing it locally. Where as, during installation of WSUS, I had unchecked the box to save updates locally! I'm not sure how this setting was enabled in the first place. Now, every time I change this setting and save, it keeps going back!

I really need to resolve this ASAP! Please help!

Remove your sup and wsus and start again.

For urgent issue you should always contact CSS directly for support.

You always need to save updates locally, ConfigMgr will set this on the WSUS instance if you don't. However, do not approve updates directly in WSUS. The only thing that WSUS itself handles is the update catalog which is synchronized to ConfigMgr, not the update binaries themselves. WSUS will also download EULAs for all updates as well. Thus, the only thing within the content folder specified within WSUS should be the EULAs and the binaries for only a few infrastructure updates that are automatically approve by WSUS. If there's anything else, it means you are approving updates, either manually or via an auto-approval rule, in WSUS -- you should not be doing this as mentioned and this is the only reason for the WSUS content folder to get larger than a gig.

Thanks for the quick response Garth! Unfortunately, my company does not have paid support. So I need to rely on forum for any issues.

This is the second time I've re-installed both WSUS and SUP but find this option coming back.

Jason, what you said makes sense. I'm not worried about 1/2 gig. Last time before I un-installed, it took up ~16GB on each of the servers in the hierarchy downloading the same files on all of the servers. Hence I took to re-installing it. I shall wait for a few more hours to see if WSUS is going to fill up the hard disk again.
