WSS and MOSS Datasheet view people and groups bug or limitation
I need help trying to work around a limitation with the datasheet view with a list in sharepoint WSS and MOSS. I need to figure out how to fix the people and group lookup fields so it will not corrupt my data. Currently the data filters for this type of group does not work. I have listed the steps below on how to recreate my issue:1. Create a sharepoint group called DELETEMETEST > add a user to that group2. Create a new list3. Create a column in the list called DELETEMEPEOPLE > Select people only > Choose From DELETEMETEST Group4. Finish creating the list5. Create item in the list * Notice that if you search for users in DELETEMEPEOPLE it will only show the users assigned to the group.6. Finish creating the record.Back at the listActions > Edit in DatasheetNotice that the DELETEMEPEOPLE now no longer has any filters, and you can add people outside of the DELETEMETEST Group. What are the possible solutions to working around this issue?1. Setting a bit flag on the SPField - Didn't see one that only worked for the datasheet. 2. You could make a custom field type of people and groups and that would make it read only in the datasheet, but isn't that a lot of work for something that is already created? Thanks for any advice....Ivan

I just ran across this same thing the other day and have not found a resolution. Has anyone seen this and / or been able to resolve. Cheers, Jay

I think MS is ignoring this. I can't find a KB article or any official documentation regarding this behavior.

It will work for you exactly same way as you want, but you should have Office 2010 on your client system :) or you can install this patch and it will start working. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=c06b8369-60dd-4b64-a44b-84b371ede16d
