WSS 3.0 search not picking up some list items

We have an instance of WSS 3.0 and it is working pretty flawlessly but there is a list we have where we know the items exist, yet they do not show up in our search results.

When I check the Search logs, this is the error on these particular items that are not coming up in the search:

http://sharepoint.mailposte.ca/pep/...m.aspx?id=1513
The parameter is incorrect.

Any ideas?

Hi,

I understand that some list items doesnt show up in search results.  Does this only happen to the items in a single list?

Here are a few places you need to check:

  1. Check the items permissions. Make sure that the search default account have access to these items.
  2. Check the list permission and make sure that not too much users are in the same group.
  3. Start a full crawl again.

Thanks,

Entan Ming

Hi jamvan,

i agree with Entan post previously,

please deliver more detail regarding this issue, at one part (sorry) i assumed that previously the issue was not there, then some process started, that makes the issue appear?

if so, please help to remember what is the last process before the issue appeared.

based on http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc850696.aspx article,

  • During the indexing process, the system stores the ACE of each user who was added to a SharePoint group instead of the ACE of the SharePoint group itself. This process supports approximately 1000 users per access control list (ACL), after which the "Parameter is incorrect" error causes crawling to fail.

if it is correct that it is because the ACL for users are exceeded, then please reduce the users or you may create a new group and move the users to the new group.

THe largest group with access to this list is 65.

The System Account does have full access to this list as well.

I have ran a full crawl again adn still the item(s) are missing.

Thanks again
