WSS 3.0 backup with DPM 2007-Recovery
Hi all, I've set up DPM 2007 for WSS backup. Everything went all right. It is backing up the farm ok but I have a problem recovering items. I just want to check whether I am missing something or not. In DPM 2007 recovery setup on Microsoft site it says: "Ensure that no content database is already attached to the recovery web application (DPMRecoveryWebApplication) as this will cause recoveries to fail. The web application name DPMRecoveryWebApplication is a required name and it must be created for DPM to be able to restore any SharePoint data."Now, they want recovery web application to be identical to the web application I will recover. The only way to make it identical to the original web application is to extend it from the original and give it a different port number (may be I am worng?). Only in this case it will save existing web application identical! But, I don't understand how they want to create a web application, extended or created as a new one, without attaching content database?!!!! As it says above! If you extend an existing one with different port number, system automatically attached existing wss_config (or whatever name it is) database. If you try to create a new web application you still need to create it with a new content database otherwise system will not allow you to go further. Is there something I am missing or don't understand?!Error I am getting when try to recover items (documents or sites) is: "DPM was unable to attach content database to the recovery farm (ID 32002)". I have checked all solutions for this error message and configured system accordingly. It still does not work!Help will be most appreciated!Thank you.

Hi Berdia, When you create a new web application, SharePoint will automatically create a new empty content database. “Ensure that no content database is already attached to the recovery web application (DPMRecoveryWebApplication) as this will cause recoveries to fail.” This sentence means you need to detach the empty content database. For more information about how to detach a content database, please refer to the following article: Deletecontentdb: Stsadm operation (Office SharePoint Server) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262449.aspx If you install a SharePoint Service pack on your protected farm, please ensure that your recovery farm has the same Service pack installed. If this is not done, then item level restore operations will fail. For the following error, please double check whether you apply the same cumulative updates to the recovery farm server. If not, install cumulative updates and run the “Configuring SharePoint Products and Technologies” wizard with a user that has the required permissions, after that check the effect. “DPM was unable to attach content database to the recovery farm (ID 32002).” Hope this helps.
