WSS 3.0 Content to Sharepoint 2007 site
Hi Guys, unfortunately I was unable to restore the WSS 3.0 database as I wished to (from my previous thread). I backed up WSS using the CA utility but no matter what I did the restore failed. Anyway moving on I have now removed WSS 3 and installed Sharepoint 2007 (which was the primary gend goal anyway) to a fresh SQL 2005 install. I just wanted to se if WSS could be restored as I know that historically WSS restores have been problematic for many many admins. Can anyone tell me is it now possible to restore the WSS 3 content to a newly created Sharepoint 2007 site, or is that just too messy. This site is in test mode so to speak, so blowing it away is not an issue, however I would like to restore my WSS site and develop it fiurther in a live environment for my Family Home Network. Also this is great lerning for the WSS 3.0 site I admin at work too.... thanks, Garry

Hey Garry, I'm sorry to hear that your restore didn't work. Unfortunately, if the backup won't restore to WSS, it's not going to restore to MOSS either. The only other possibility that I can think of is for you to add the database to your new MOSS site as another content database. That might work, provided there aren't any version differences i.e. both WSS and MOSS were fully patched to the latest version. SharePoint is famously stubborn on restores when the versions aren't the same. It's done for good reason, but it makes for a royal pain for admins. :-) I trust that answers your question...
