WSS 3.0 Content Editor Web Part, can't edit
I am using WSS 3.0, and I have full rights to the program. I have a content Editor Web Part that I want to delete. It is there to explain content below it and is no longer needed (a page of forms). When I go to site settings and choose the option to edit web parts, I get the typical view one sees at this point. I click on the edit down arrow, it gives me a little hint that I am editing the window (web part menu), but I see none of the typical choices (minimize, close, delete, modify). The program pretty much acts as if I haven't done anything. I can move the web part to another area of the page, but cannot edit it or delete it, as those choices are not available. Is there anyway to backdoor this web part or go in from another direction so I can eliminate this web part? Thanks.

Try the SharePoint Web Part Management page. Add this to the URL ?contents=1 and if you have access you should be able to close or remove the web part.Paul Olenick SharePoint/FAST Architect , MCTS http://olenicksharepoint.wordpress.com/

Hi, In addition, you can open this page in SharePoint Designer, find the CEWP and delete it directly. Thanks. Come on!

Hi, It shows that you have selected options to allow delete etc in advanced settings of the webpart. Now you can add ?contents=1 to the page url and it will take you to the web part maintenance page where you can remove the same. I hope this will help you out. Thanks, Rahul Rashu

Paul Olenick SharePoint/FAST Architect , MCTS http://olenicksharepoint.wordpress.com/ Not familiar with what you are speaking about. Is this a specific method that one uses instead of the normal web part management technique that is under site settings, or is this the same but you are referring to it by its normal name and I just didn't know it? Thank you

OK, I went to site settings and the to Edit page. It shows the various Web parts. I clicked the down arrow next to the one I want to edit, which gave me a URL. I added the little bit of code you recommended to the end of the URL and it took me back to the original page where I started. BTW, there are 2 webparts that are the same type. One allows me to maintain it as expected. The other is the troublesome one, where I get no options to do anyhting to it. I'm going to keepo trying, but if you have any other suggestions, I am all ears. Thanks.

Not familiar enough with code or Designer to do this with any sort of confidence.

You don't have to edit the page first. Your URL should look something like this: http://myportal/sites/myportalsite/pages/mypage.aspx?contents=1 THen you should see a page that looks like this: http://vspug.com/nrdev/files/2007/02/WPM_DestPage.gif This is a page that you either see when you have a web part error or if you manually navigate to it like above.
