WSS 3.0 Browser Hangs when setting Alert
I've only found on post about this issue on the internet. WSS 3.0 sp2 ( 2 server farm, SharePoint and SQL); when configuring an alert the browser hangs for 30 minutes and then times out. Nothing in the error logs. When I use telnet from the WSS server and connect to the exchange server over port 25 i have no problem connecting and sending an email. (the exchange server doesn't come back with any responses, so I don't know if that abnormal or not) I found one post that said to run these commands: stsadm -o setproperty -propertyname alerts-enabled -propertyvalue false -url http://%1 stsadm -o setproperty -propertyname alerts-enabled -propertyvalue true -url http://%1 stsadm -o setproperty -propertyname job-immediate-alerts -propertyvalue "every 5 minutes" -url http://%1 but those had no effect. Hi Steve McHargue, Set up new alert using email address instead of domain\user, then check the effect. What is your WSS 3.0 version? Is it an upgrade from V2 to V3? Check Services on Server in Central Admin, make sure all required services running. Check Timer Job Status, make sure no failed jobs. Check Event Log and post the relevant SharePoint errors and Event IDs into the forum. Create a new web app and see if the issue can occurs. Can you have your SQL person run a Profiler Trace when you try to create an alert? See Monitoring with SQL Profiler for more information. If you capture a Fiddler, do you see it hang on any particular file? 1) Download and install the latest version of Fiddler from http://www.fiddlertool.com. 2) Run Fiddler from the "Start" menu. 3) Reproduce the problem. 4) On the "File" menu in Fiddler, click "Capture Traffic" to stop the capture (Fiddler starts capturing automatically when it starts.) 4) On the "Edit" menu in Fiddler, click "Select All". 5) On the "File" menu in Fiddler, click "Save", "Sessions", "as text file". 6) Save the capture to your desktop. 7) Please post the error code into the forum for further analyze.
