Hi, I am trying to include the ID field into the subject line for immediate email alerts, I've created a copy of the alerttemplates.xml and used the STSADM -o updatealerttemplates command to update it. I then restarted IIS. The subject line does include the field (I added a dash either side) but it's blank. Why is this so? The ID field should be populated as soon as the list item has been created and saved.

If the item is just being created it's a common trait of sharepoint to not have assigned the ID yet...so when you do something like this it comes out blank. I've found that workflows on the other hand execute after the ID has been assigned and you could send an alert that way maybe... Best regards, S'

I just create a simple SPD workflow to send email out on item creation. The subject contains ListName:ID, and the body text contains -[%ListName:ID%]-. Both ID display well in the email received.
