WDS won't start once PSP is enabled
I have a 3 server environment: 1 server running Windows 2003 that is the DC and is running DHCP, 1 server that is Windows 2008 SP2 that is running WDS and the 3rd server running Windows Server 2008 SP2 that has SCCM 2007 SP1 on it along with the SQL database server. I installed WDS on the WDS server it all went fine. When I try to enable the WDS servers as a PSP, WDS stops and will not start and I have various errors in multiple locations:In the smspxe.log file there are errors like CMPDBConnection::Init(): IDBInitialize()failed with 0x80004005In the Application event log of the WDS server there are Error event ID's 257, 261, 265 and 513.Nothing I have found so far has helped solve this problem. If I remove the PSP, WDS will start functioning fine again. The SQL server service on the SCCM machine is running under a domain account.

sounds like a permissions problem, the easiest thing to do would be to host the WDS service and PSP role on the SCCM box, or do you have other ideas ? see here for details ' PXE Service Point The PXE service point is a Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 site role that responds to PXE requests from computers that have been imported into Configuration Manager 2007. The PXE service point must be configured to respond to PXE boot requests by Configuration Manager 2007 clients so that Configuration Manager 2007 clients can interact with the Configuration Manager 2007 infrastructure to determine the appropriate installation actions to take. A PXE service point can be installed on a primary or secondary site. Installing a PXE service point on a site system that is configured as a branch distribution point is not supported. I have seen that kind of problem once, the solution was to configure some SPN with the SQL Service account.Take a look at your components status and look for an error on the manageemnt point component (I thinkthat this was that component).Make sure to run the SPN command with a domain admin account.

as a matter of interest how is option 67 configured in your dhcp servermy SCCM step by step Guides > http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1064

Option 67 is not configured on my DHCP server because everything is on the same subnet AND the DHCP server is not running on the same machine. Anyway, I don't think this would have anything to do with the service not starting at all. I have uninstalled the PSP and WDS multiple times with the same result each time.

I think I figured out what is causing WDS to not start...I have no HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SMS key in the registry on the PSP. Not sure why this is happening though.

Anyone have any idea why the registry keys are not getting created as part of the install?

As far as the install...everything seems to be happening as it is supposed to except for the registry entries. You can see all of the files being created on the WDS server and the WDS service being modified from a Manual start to an Automatic start.

Hi Ian Same configuration as mentioned above? PXE Point on remote System? Then, is your PXE Point Computer Account member of the local Group SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_SiteCode on your Site Server? You can check also in SQL Management Studio if the PXE Point Computer Account has the smsdbrole_PSP assigned Is the SCCM SQL Instance running on default SQL Port 1433? Otherwise you have to set the SQL Port on the PXE Service Point (C:\Windows\System32\Cliconfg.exe) Firewall Exeptions for WDS on PXE Point and SQL Port on the Site Database Server set? Greetings, Jürg
