Visio Add-in or OpsMgr Question
Hi Folks, Have a question about how you think i should install Visio in our environment. Have a RMS with the webconsole installed on, that people surf in to. Also have a few Consoles installed for example on a few Terminal Services-servers. I want to use the visio add-in to create a map and then generate a webpage and link that in a view in OpsMgr.^ Then want everybody to be able to see what view from both the Web Console and the ordinary Console without having to install Visio everywhere. Dont want to install Visio on my RMS, but if my consoles will work without anything else i will consider it. Hope you understand and have a good answer. Thanks/Maekee

Hi Maekee, Visio and the add-in can be installed on a desktop machine - it does not need to be installed on the RMS. You can installed it on a workstation that has the console installed. For installation instructions, see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee355210.aspx.

Hi Kerrie, Thanks for the fast reply, how does it work under the hood? Does the Console refresh the Visio page for me? If i want to create a web page so i can link that to OpsMgr, do i need to install IIS or do i export that to a html-file and use that? Will all consoles work with the Visio-views or just the one on the server/desktop where Visio is installed?/Maekee

The visio add-in allows visio to connect to the RMS and get data from it. For specifics on data refresh see step 5 on this page: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee355211.aspx So the Visio Diagrams you create will only work on the box where the visio add-in is installed and configured. Good link, Scott! For a general overview on how it works plus links to related information, see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee342533.aspx. And if you happen to already have the Unleashed book on OpsMgr 2007 R2 (System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 Unleashed), there's a section in chapter 9 that discusses using the Visio add-in.

Hi Maekee, Sharepoint is required* for Visio-add-in. Without this Visio will not be able to collect data from RMS Regards, Brajesh kumarRegards, Brajesh

Is there no way around? reguired*? What is the asterix for? No way to work around this? Is Sharepoint 2010 required? We have Sharepoint 2007 now... or is it only necessary to install a Sharepoint "add-in"? Want to publish my Website ;(/Maekee

asterix is for mandatory This is Visio 2010 add-in and therfore required sharepoint 2010 to configure the Visio Services Data Provider for System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 to enable Visio diagrams to show live health state from Operations Manager in SharePoint. So it is required*Regards, Brajesh

If i go back to Visio 2007, is it possible then. Have got the assumption from a OpsMgr presenation that its possible when no Sharepoint was mentioned. :( Just bought Visio 2010 and now i found this requirement.. me very sad at this moment. We have Sharepoint 2007 now.. can this be done.. is there no other way of updating the Health on a web page (with vdw files) without Sharepoint? How does Savision do it then? They dont need Sharepoint.. /Maekee
