Videos

I can not play videos of a SharePoint 2013 site on windows 10.  When I click on the thumbnail it opens up  blank screen with install Micorosft silver light error (like a pop up on blank video) which I already did.

I tried edge, chrome and I get the same message. One  of videos is uploaded in sharepoint and other one is a link pointing to a share.

I can play these videos on windows 8 with IE 10

Any theories please.

Hi,

According to your description, my understanding is that you are unable to play videos in SharePoint 2013 on window 10.

Please follow the steps below to troubleshoot:

1. Play videos in other site collection and test whether the issue occurs.

2. Re-install Microsoft silver light and test whether the issue occurs.

3. Play videos using IE and test whether the issue occurs.

4. Play videos using other machine with windows 10 and test whether the issue occurs.

Feel freely to reply the results if you have tried the tests.

Dean, here is the test result

1. Windows 10 using edge it gives Silverlight message. I did uninstall and reinstall but it dint change anything. I tried on a different windows10 machine and the result is the same. All these tests are same on different machines. So at this point it seems like browser specific.

2. Windows 10 using chrome it does not play. Same Silverlight message.

3. Windows 10 using firefox it plays

4. Windows 10 using IE it plays

5. Windows 8 using chrome doesn't play

6. Windows 8 IE it plays.

By the way it is a WMV file.

Have you tried uploading the video to an asset library and then playing it?  Does it still refuse to play in this instance?

Hi Ramshna,

Please have a try to play videos in other websites instead of SharePoint sites using edge and chrome, and then test whether the error occurs.

If the error still occurs, it seems be caused by edge and chrome browser, I suggest you post the issue to the corresponding forum and you will get the most qualified pool of respondents.

Found an related issue at

So far what I got is that Edge is free of add-ons so it is not able to play the video from SharePoint Asset library. But no explanation why I cant play in chrome but I can play in IE.

Hi,

Thanks for your sharing.

Since you can play in IE and cant play in chrome, I suggest you play videos using IE.

I dont have documentations about chrome browser, thus, its better to get answers from supporters of chrome browser.

Thanks for your understanding.
