Video problem in Boot Image
When i try to boot (using PXE) in one specific machine i get a black screen after Windows7/Vista logo. I have read in this forum that it can be a problem with the Network card and one possible solution is upgrade the BIOS. Before update the BIOS i make some tests using USB boot media and instead of get a black screen now the Video Freezes. Apparently the boot image is missing video drivers (i have tryied to put them in the boot image, but it don't work). Because the boot image don't load at all, i don't get any log at SMSTSLOG, and for the PXE server the download process works fine, so i get no error in the log. Someone ever see something like this ? Thanks for any help. []s OBS: I'm using SCCM SP2 with R2 Eduardo Leal

what hardware are you having the issue on ? do not add video drivers to your boot wim, the only drivers you should add to the boot wim are network or storage drivers. My step by step SCCM Guides I'm on Twitter > ncbrady

hi Eduardo, is that hardware very old ? Intel 815E Type B (GMCH) + Intel 82801BA (ICH2) the motherboard chipset seems dated... does it have less than 512mb ram ? what OS are you intending to put on it ? perhaps it's just not supported with configmgr (and/or the version of WinPE) cheers niall My step by step SCCM Guides I'm on Twitter > ncbrady

info from the rockwell site suggests this is an "industrial computer", fitted with resistive touchscreen and installed with WindowsXP Embedded. suggest you confirm (given the age of your HW) that it is capable and suitable for the OS you are deploying (assuming it is Win7 but you have not stated). perhaps on a working system you should run the Win7 upgrade advisor: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor there is a method to do this via SCCM/SUM/WSUS, if you have more that a couple to do. if these machines are currently clients to SCCM then this might be easiest? if you have differing models of these AB/Rockwell machines, check that they are all capable of Win7.tesgroup

Hi, Im trying to deploy windows XP sp3. This machine already runs on windows xp today. I've tested OSD deploy in older machines then this an it works. (In one case, the machine opened Winpe in VGA (16 colors i guess) mode). I've upgraded the memory to 2.5 GB so it's not a memory problem. Thanks for your replies... []s Eduardo Leal

I don't know much about bios versions and i get a little lost here rs. In Manufecture site says that Chipset = Intel 945GM + Intel ICH7M. But as i said, i have older machines and it works. Maybe i should try another version of winpe. Like vista (WAIK 2.0) ? OBS: I guess the machine ins't that old, because it has support for PXE and the Harddisk is sata. Eduardo Leal

Ive made a test that makes me sad. I copy a boot.wim from Vista Ultimate 32 media i my pen drive. When the boot image from vista is loading the video freezes like WINPE boot image. So, if i try to deploy vista by DVD media, probably(99,999% sure) it won't work. Is there any configuration that we can do at the winpe boot image ?? Eduardo Leal

are there any settings in the bios on that computer to configure the amount of RAM that video uses ? if so set it to use maximum ram, other than that I'm not sure what you can do, send me the hardware and i'll test it for you ? cheers niall My step by step SCCM Guides I'm on Twitter > ncbrady
