Versioning Limit Reductions
Hello,
My document libraries have versioning with limits. This limit was previously 100 but has been reduced to 20.
I assumed that the additional 80 versions would be deleted from each library upon this setting change, but this has not happened. There are too many documents for me to go through them individually deleting off the first 80 copies, and my database size has
become too large for my backup media.
How can I delete versions from all libraries so that they store the new limit of 20?
Thank you.

They won't be deleted just by changing from 100 to 20.
But my assumption has been that if a new version is added after the change has been made from 100 to 20 *then* all the versions above 20 will vanish.
Are you saying this isn't happening?2010 Books:
SPF 2010; SPS 2010; SPD 2010; InfoPath 2010; Workflow etc.
2007 Books:
WSS 3.0; MOSS 2007; SPD 2007; InfoPath 2007; PerformancePoint; SSRS; Workflow
Both lists also include books in French; German; Spanish with even more languages in the 2007 list.

Thank you for responding.
Yes, the surplus versions will disappear following the next checkout.
However, there are lots of dormant files (i.e. those categorised by year: 2009, 2008, 2007 etc) and it is not viable to traverse libraries, folders and files to deal with them one at a time.
I was hoping there was a bulk method.

Hi Lionel,
You need to write code for this requirement. SharePoint do not provide this utility OOTB.
Fortunately, there are some solutions out there. You can give it a shot.
