Version Properties not saving

We have a library with Version control (major/minor).  Until recently it worked fine.  Currently however, when you go to update the properties of a document it checks out the document and creates a minor version, but the 'change' made doesn't seem to save.  The minor version does not show the change and if you go back into the properties to make any additional changes it also does not show.  This occurs both if you don't or do check-in the document.

However, if you open the document and change the column properties from within Word and save the document, the properties get updated on the draft as expected.

It seems like we had this same issue years ago, but I can't seem to find the solution we did previously.

This sounds very much like the same issue, however the 'solution' mentioned is not viable - Maintaining the history of the documents is a requirement for audit purposes.

Hi,

From your description, fields were not saved when changed from edit properties form.

For your issue, check the following possible causes:

  1. Check the content type the library is using, may be the document template associated with the content type is corrupted.
  2. Check the columns for any duplication.
  3. Check which Office Version you are using, some old versions can cause compatibility issues.

Here are similar issue posts for your reference:

The issue appears to be the same as the last link, however the proposed 'solution' while functionally works, does not maintain the history of the file and thus is not a solution.

Whether all user can't see the change in the minor version.

Navigate to the Library Settings->Versions settings->Choose Any user ho can read items can see the draft.
