I don't understand why Microsoft instituted this manual process.  I have two other Microsoft Live accounts (one of which is used as a Microsoft Partner) that all have the same mobile phone number for verification.  I did not have this problem with either of those accounts.

I even went through two part verification of this account at Microsoft Live and told it not to require two part on this machine yet I still cannot post a link.

Of course you can post without getting verified.
It's just that you would not be able to post images/URLs as soon as you join.

As already mentioned, simply put, we are preventing spam.
Gradually as the user starts contributing to the forum, they would be able to post images/URLs without issue.
