Validate OSD Image Deployment
Hi I was woundering if there was a way for SCCM to do a checksum on the WIM images that is deployed to a computer via OSD to ensure that it was not corrupted in transit as we have links that have high packet loss. I heard that SCCM 2007 had a issue with deploying images via high packet loss links and i wanted to see if there was anything to help mitigate before going down this path? First, yes, ConfigMgr compares checksums on content downloaded to clients if the download and execute (default) emthod is used for a task sequence. However, it sounds like you are talking about long-haul/WAN links here. If so, then moving 3GB+ images over these links is not the best solution. You should optimally place DPs at the end of these links so that the content to closer to the clients. A similar checksum process is used when content is delivered to DPs also.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | Twitter @JasonSandys

I think any product would have issues reliably deploying large operating system images over links with high packet loss. If the underlying network architecture can't handle large data transfers reliably then yes, there will be issues. As Jason noted, SCCM does handle this scenario quiet well (as best it can), however. If this post was helpful, please click the little "Vote as Helpful" button :) Trevor Sullivan http://trevorsullivan.net
