Using Workflow to create an InfoPath item in a Forms Library

Hi Experts:

Here is my situation:

I have a MOSS 2007 server with list A (regular sharepoint list) and List B (InfoPath form library with a published form)

This is what I am trying to accomplish using SharePoint Designer:

  • List A is just a basic list
  • User changes a column in list A to a specific value
  • A new form needs to be added to the forms library B

SharePoint designer Workflow will not create a valid xml file in the List B forms library. It just creates an invalid file based on the .xsn file template.

Does anyone have any experience creating a valid xml form in a forms library using SharePoint Designer workflow?

I can't migrate to 2010 so that is not an option.

Thanks for all your advise.

Hi,

Not sure whether the solution work for you.

I found a interesting video for “Create InfoPath documents in SharePoint with SPD”

Please check the link:

Hope this helps

Thanks!

Other than the Video in 2010 we have to change inside the Form Document Template path using SPD

after that it works

Pasinduh and All,

I am getting the workflow to execute and create a new item, however after configuring and pointing it to the template.XML (not templae.XSN) correctly and confirming it in SPD2010 as well, new items are still created as .XSN documents.  Since the new items are .xsn documents, this does not allow the user to fill out the form using the browser (is enabled to do so).

I don't see what the problem could because the document template referenced is clearly the blank .xml file created.

Am I missing a step here or is there another way to create InfoPath forms from a workflow?

Thank You.

Hi LetsSharePoints,

I been facing the same problem with SharePoint 2010, that a form is getting created using SPD2010 workflow,but its not allowing me to open in browser as the extension is .xsn instead of .xml.

Did saw the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcnC_XwCcAg and tried the steps, but no use with 2010.

If anyone found solution please could you share.

Thank you.

Same Issue here.  Via SSIS created process to migrate SQL data into a SharePoint 2010 List.  After much grief and tons of reading I was able to create a workflow that ran when the List data was created it automatically created an item in my SharePoint 2010 Library.   Next headache was these new records had no InfoPath form associated with them. So following the Wong-A-Ton video for SP 2007 which is said to work in 2010 I have had absolutely no luck.

So I thought ok...  a work around could be to make the List and Library have the same fields, create IP Form  for List that looks like my Library IP form and make it a Content Type, then enable Manage Content Types on the Library and add the List form to the settings,  and then use workflow to make a copy.   The new Library record created shows it's an IP Type but does not launch IP form when opened.

Would love any resolution... Any.  I have to get this done today.
