Using VEEAM to create a DEV server?
I have a production WSS single-server installation, and want to create a DEV version. We created a VEEAM backup of the server, restored it offline, then rename and re-IP the new VM. However, on the new VM, when try to hit the CA site, it's pointing to the production site. When I try to pull up the site collection, I'm getting 'page cannot be found'. I created a little helloworld site which comes up fine. Is there something I can run to remap the location of the new server's CA to the new IP/server name? Like I said previously, the installations are single-server, with their own WIDs. Much thanks, Scott

Hi Scott, Is the VM you created from production on the same network? How do you access your sites? By server name (http://testMachine) or by host name (say htt://company.name.com)? Have you updated the Alternate Access Mappings (Central admin > Operations)? Hope this helps!BlueSky2010

Thanks BlueSky. Yes, same network. The new VM has different IP addresses from production's assigned to it. Production server is accessed by DNS pointing to either an IP or http://server:port site name. Essentially, the site which resolves as http://intranetsite.mycompany.com is, on the server, http://servername:1234 or http://10.10.10.10:1234. AAM aren't changed, it's all handled through DNS. It's not the way I would have done it necessarily, but that's the way it is in production. The part I'm having a bit of trouble getting my head around is this: when I RDP into the new VM and select Start > Sharepoint 3.0 Central Administration, it's taking me to the production CA address. when I go to IIS and brows SharePoint Central Administration v3, I get "webpage cannot be found". Again, much thanks.
