Users cannot get access to a subsite when restoring a MOSS 2007 site in another farm
Hello all. In a development environment with 2 servers, a front-end with MOSS 2007 and SSRS 2008 integrated, and a back-end with SQL Server 2008, both servers running WS 2008 R2, customer decided to restore a copy of the production environment’s Intranet which runs in a 5 server farm (2 WFE, 1 AppServer and a SQL cluster). In the production environment, there is a site hosting some BI reports with proper MOSS security via SharePoint groups linked with some AD groups to handle authorization for the users. However, restoration is not working properly since when a user tries to reach the site, he gets the typical MOSS error window stating there is no access for that user. And in the event log all is captured is: Log Name: ApplicationSource: ASP.NET 2.0.50727.0Date: 3/8/2010 5:22:27 PMEvent ID: 1314Task Category: Web EventLevel: InformationKeywords: ClassicUser: N/AComputer: PNT56BTA.porvenir.comDescription:Event code: 4011 Event message: An unhandled access exception has occurred. I've tried to inherit permissions from site into the subsite with no success. Even worse, if I take one of the users and promote him as a site collection administrator, he can access the site. So I’m kind of confused not only for this behavior but for the event logged. Development environment is Kerberos enabled, by the way and before restore, everything was working fine. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Guillermo

Hi,What's the version of your MOSS?Please try to install KB934793 to see if it will work.http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/934793If this is not the issue, check ULS logs for more clue.Lu Zou

How was the backup/restore done? If it was just the particular subsite itself then the security groups would not exist in the site collection in the development environment. Also, the errors seem to be referring to your SSP Service account. Can you verify that the AD account is used as the SSP service in the development environment as well and that it has the same rights on the development server and development SQL Server (and databases).

Hello Lou and thanks for helping. I tried to apply the fix but it says me that "The expected version of the product was not found on the system".The server runs a MOSS 2007 SP2 on a WS2008 R2 on the front-end and in the back-end a SQL Server 2008 also on a WS2008 R2 box. All is running @ 64 bits.Regards,Guillermo
