User with read access can't view list items

Hi,

I request help from SharePoint experts.

Problem statement:

I have created some Sharepoint lists on a sharepoint page. There are mulitple users for this page. I will like some of the users to have read-only access, so I have assigned them 'read' permission level.

When these users (with read access) visit the page, then they can't view the list items. They only see the column names, and the list contents aren't visible to them.

What have I checked so far?

1. Permission level under Manage tab- I have used the standard Sharepoint out of the box 'Read' permission level

2. Under the list settings > Advanced settings > Item level permissions, I have ensured that following check boxes are selected:

a) Read all items

b) Create and edit all items

Question:

Is there anything more that I need to get the user read only access ?  Why are the users unable to see the list items?

Note: I do not want to grant 'Contribute' user access as this allows the user to edit/delete the list contents.

Thanks,  Sagar

Hi Sagar,

According to your description, user with read access can't view list items.

There are some possibilities:

  1. Please check Versioning Settings in List Settings, if you enable Require content approval for submitted items and the Approval Status of the list items is Pending or Rejected, users with read permission still cannot see the items.
  2. Make sure there is no filter like Created By [Me] of the view.
  3. Make sure the user have read permission on the items. In other words, make sure the items of the list dont have unique permissions.

Lisa,

Thanks for these suggestions. I have verified all the three possiblilities and everything is set right. Yet, a user with 'read' access cannot view the list items. Do let me know if you can think of any other setting which can influence this behavior.

Sagar

Hi Sagar,

Please check if there any filters applied for the List view that you have added to the page? Also, could you please tell me what type of list template you have made use of and are there any other webparts on the page?

Hi Nayana,

I have used list of type 'Custom List in Datasheet View' and have displayed it on the SP page using a web part. There are many other webparts on the page like timeline, SSRS report, content control etc.

I have not applied any filters as such. I have used default view which shows all items.

Thanks,

Sagar
