User sets their primary device - Trigger ?

I want to run a script whenever a user sets their device as a "Primary device".

Is there anything that I can use to trigger off from this event, like a status message etc...

Hi,

What do you want to do with the script? You can check user device affinity on site server and create a dynamic collection. So you can deploy your script. Not sure if this fulfill your requirement.

I want to take the username and the computer name and add them to a group created for the location of that computer.

Well, I rarely say things are impossible. Is there a way to do this with built-in ConfigMgr functionality? No. Can it be done? Yes. Would it be supported? Probably not. A DB trigger could do this and I'm sure that WMI eventing could also. You could even write a script that simply watches the DB table or WMI class for changes (this probably would be technically supported from a solution perspective).

In addition to doing what Jason describes (which would work), you could open up feedback on Microsoft Connect. If they were to add a status message for this event that included the device name, the user being added, and the type of association (user defined, admin defined, UDA defined, etc), you could use status message rules to trigger your script. I'd vote for that - post a link to it if you do.
