(We are running SharePoint 2010 on a server farm with SP2+, not SharePoint Online)
In the UI, if you create a new custom User Profile property, it appears the maximum you can make the length is 3600 characters (e.g. you get an error on the form if you try to make a length larger than that).
However, online, I have found references to several posts that say, in fact, the maximum length is 2,000 characters.
e.g. https://sharepointnomad.wordpress.com/2009/10/16/maximum-string-length-for-sharepoint-profile-custom-properties/e.g. http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/145069/whats-maximum-length-allowed-for-string-type-user-profile-property-in-sharepoin
e.g. https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/bcfde049-794e-43c7-aea8-53b5f06ac6a6/user-profile-html-field-changes-length-?forum=sharepointgeneralprevious
Is there any definitive documentation on this?
What is the maximum length of a custom String (single) or Html User Profile Property? The maximum supported length?
(Maybe originally it was 2,000 and then it was increased to 3,600 in a service pack??? We're on SP2+)
