Use library Name field in List lookup

I have a list and a library.  I want to create a lookup column in the list that grabs the Name value from the Library items.  This doesn't seem possible as Name is not provided as a selection in the drop down list.  Is there a workaround that does not involved custom coding?

Hello,

Since you can't lookup "Name" column so can you consider the Title of doc lib? You can fill title column in library then make it lookup in list.

Hi run4it,

You can create another new single line of text column (e.g. DocName, you can hide it from library form and view page if you want) in library and trigger a workflow to update this custom column with "Name" column value, then create a lookup column in the list to look up the library DocName column.

Thanks,

I've tried a few things unsuccessfully.   I thought I could create a custom workflow on the library that would grab the Name field from the library and copy it to a field in the list.  From there I could create the hyperlink in the list. The problem is there is no relationship, other than the one I am trying to create, to link the list item with the library item. So in the workflow I cannot tell it which item in the list to update.

Hello,

Without having the relation between lists, it is not possible to update item specific item via workflow. So either you can fill Title field while uploading document so it can be set as lookup in list OR maintain some relation in both list to match the items.
